[su_spoiler title="Article Abstract" style="fancy"]After exploring our current psychological and sociological understanding of mystical experience, this article attempts to provide a sophisticated and neurologically grounded theory of what most call mystical experience, but what the author simply calls a connection experience or connection event. The author traces connection events to the neurological suppression of the Default Mode Network (DMN). Following identification of the DMN as the “seat” of connection experience, the author explores measures (the Q-Scale) of mystical experience, suggests ways to use of “Q” as a both a dependent and independent variable, and suggests several avenues of further research. During the course of the paper the author introduces several concepts and ideas designed to facilitate a syncretic dialog between disciplines and spiritualities.[/su_spoiler]
